ABOUT

The shadow behind the flash.

Mikael Piotrowski (b. 1996) is a Swedish photographer based in Stockholm — an unknown observer moving quietly through contemporary society, observing, documenting, and sometimes exhibiting Polaroids captured in the wild.

He is expanding an ever-growing archive of instant images — fragments of a world that insists on being remembered. Over time, this collection has grown to more than a thousand original Polaroids: a lifelong project, of which a fragment will soon appear here in the form of a book.

Why analog? Because perfection is boring — and expectations are most beautiful just before they die.

There’s something tactile about shooting on film, sure, and yes, the grain and the blur trick the flow of time in an ephemeral way. But it’s more than that. It’s something like a tree struck by lightning — alive, then altered forever. Each frame becomes both proof and disappearance, an accident that insists on meaning.
